Call for Entries
The AIA New York Chapter 2015 Housing Design Awards, organized by the AIANY Housing Committee, are intended to recognize and honor design excellence and innovation in multifamily housing design. Entries are welcomed and encouraged regardless of project size or budget from both established and new practitioners throughout the world.
Eligibility
Projects located anywhere in the world may be submitted if designed by members of the AIA New York Chapter or the Boston Society of Architects. Any registered architect anywhere in the world may submit projects located in New York City or Boston.
Associate AIA members or other unlicensed architectural graduates are not eligible, except for International AIA Associates licensed in their countries.
Eligible projects may be new construction or rehabilitation of any private or public sector project type completed after January 1, 2010.
Projects that have been honored by this awards program in the past and work by the design professionals (or their firms) serving as jurors this year are not eligible.
Submission Categories
- Multifamily housing – All types
High and low density projects including two family and row houses serving any income level. Mixed use projects may be considered in this category.
- Specialized housing
Housing that meets the unique needs of other specialized housing types such as student/faculty housing, elderly and supportive housing, homeless housing, and single-room occupancy residences.
- Community design
New neighborhoods or large-scale multi-building residential developments
* single family residences are not eligible for submission
Judging Criteria
Design excellence in relation to a project’s success in meeting its individual requirements will be the jury’s primary criterion. Affordability, social impact, sustainability innovation, resiliency, and meeting the specific needs of the client are criteria that will also be considered.

Schedule
- Submission: Entry must be completed by 5:00 pm EST Friday April 17, 2015
Conceal any references to the architecture firm on all materials submitted for the jury’s review.
- Announcement of Awards: May 11, 2015
- Awards Presentation and Symposium: Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at the Center for Architecture.
Entry fees
The nonrefundable fee for the first submission is $125 for AIANY & BSA members and $200 for all others. The fee for each additional submission by the same architect or firm is $100 for AIANY & BSA members and $150 for all others. There is no limit on the number of submissions by a firm.
