The annual Hollingworth Award competition is sponsored by the National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC) to encourage educational and psychological research studies of potential benefit to gifted and talented children.
The award is named for Leta Stetter Hollingworth (1886 - 1939), a pioneer in the field of gifted education. Long associated with Teachers College of Columbia University, Dr. Hollingworth's many significant works include Gifted Children: Their Nature and Nuture, Children Above 180 I.Q.
, and Stanford-Binet: Origin and Development.
A. Harry Passow Classroom Teacher Scholarship
The A. Harry Passow Classroom Teacher Scholarship is awarded to teachers of grades K-12 who have shown excellence in teaching gifted students, the ability to meet the needs of gifted students, and commitment to furthering the development of their teaching skills. The scholarship is designed to reimburse/defray the costs of continuing education for up to two eligible teachers currently teaching gifted students in a variety of educational settings ranging from a homogeneous or full-day special class to a heterogeneous classroom.
This award is presented to a school administrator outside the field of gifted education who has made a significant contribution to gifted education in his or her school district.
Community Service Award
Presented to an individual who has made a significant contribution to one or more of the following areas--education, science, the arts, humanities, parenting and the family, public policy--in a way that has benefited the development of gifts and talents in young people.
Doctoral Student Awards
Up to five awards are given to doctoral students who exhibit the highest and most consistent degree of scholarship in the gifted education field.
Master's and Specialist Awards
Up to five awards are given to individuals who exhibit the highest potential for future scholarship in the gifted education field.
Early Leader Award
Given to an individual who has exhibited the highest and most consistent degree of leadership in the gifted education field within 10 year of since receiving his or her doctorate.
Early Scholar Award
Presented to an individual who has made significant contributions within 10 years of receiving his/her doctorate in conducting and reporting research regarding the education of gifted and talented individuals.
David W. Belin Advocacy Award
Presented to an individual inside or outside the field who has been a consistent advocate on behalf of gifted students and a voice for supporting gifted services in school settings.
Distinguished Service Award
Presented to an individual who has made the most significant contribution to the field of gifted education through a long and fruitful association with NAGC.
Distinguished Scholar Award
Presented to the individual who has made the most significant contribution to the field of education regarding gifted and talented individuals, and whose work exhibits a continued record of distinguished scholarship and contribution.
This award is given to a current (or serving within the past year) district coordinator/administrator whose primary focus is on gifted education and who has had a significant and positive impact on the gifted students in his or her district.
