Call for Proposals Cultivating a community of innovation
Call for Proposals: Reimagine medical education with leaders from across the education continuum
Deadline – June 15, 6:00 p.m. EDT
Oct. 1–3
Swissotel Chicago
This fall join the AMA at ChangeMedEd 2015, a national conference bringing together leaders from medical education, health systems and related fields to transform the way future physicians are trained. Part of the AMA's "Accelerating Change in Medical Education" initiative, the event will cultivate a community of innovation that's driving the creation of the medical school of the future.
We invite you to submit a proposal to showcase your transformative ideas and approaches to medical education.
When completing your submission, please choose which focus area applies to your presentation.
- Flexible, competency-based pathways using milestones and/or entrustable professional activities (EPAs)
Medical schools are shifting to competency-based curricula, where students advance through individualized learning plans as they meet key milestones or EPAs. The time-based educational model is shifting to one in which a student may need less time in medical school, or additional training, to progress to graduation.
- Teaching new content in health care delivery science
The discipline of health care delivery science complements the biomedical and clinical sciences and includes improving health care quality, increasing the value of care provided, enhancing patient safety, delivering population-based medical care, working collaboratively in teams, recognizing the socio-ecological determinants of health and understanding health care policy, advocacy and economics.
- Working with health care delivery systems in novel ways
Physicians-in-training learn about health care delivery by working in authentic settings, and they are able to contribute to improving the health of patients and the health care system in meaningful ways. Clinical system leadership may take an active role in educational endeavors, working with medical schools and residencies in collaborative, strategic and synergistic ways.
- Technology and/or big data
Medical schools and residencies are adapting technology in new ways to solve key problems, advance curricular goals and improve physician training. Teaching electronic health records, management of patient panels, interpretation of ‘big data’, and ePortfolios and assessment data are examples of current technology solutions.
- Lifelong learning/master adaptive learning
The new vision for a medical student and a physician is to become a master adaptive learner—an expert, self-directed, self-regulated and lifelong workplace learner. These learners will continually assess their abilities and address any deficiencies throughout their careers.
- Leadership development
Future physicians will need to do more than deliver high-quality care. To be effective in the modern health care system, they will need to possess the ability to lead teams and participate in effecting positive change. Schools and programs are implementing new learning experiences and competencies in leadership, including leadership tracks, hands-on experiential education, and learning exercises.
When completing your submission, please choose your presentation format.
