The National Center for Disaster Medicine and Public Health (NCDMPH) welcomes the submission of abstracts for display as a poster or to be presented orally at the Disaster Health Education Symposium: Advancing the State of the Art, being held
September 7, 2017 at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences located at 4301 Jones Bridge Road, Bethesda, Maryland 20814.
Symposium Objectives
This symposium will provide a forum with a specific focus on education and training in disaster medicine and public health. This symposium will:
1) Highlight promising approaches, science and practice for education and training in disaster medicine and public health
2) Present a unique forum for collaboration and networking among disaster medicine and public health professionals
3) Explore the implications of the latest practice and research for disaster medicine and public health learning and performance and identify key areas for future research
Target Audience
An interdisciplinary group of academia, associations, the private sector, Federal, State, local and tribal Governments and the Military.

Important Information
POSTER AND ORAL ABSTRACT SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
POSTER: An author must register and attend the symposium. Time will be set aside for attendees to visit you at your displayed poster. Accepted posters will be reviewed at the symposium by a poster review committee. Outstanding poster awards will be announced during the closing keynote general session on September 7, 2017.
ORAL: Outstanding oral abstract submission will present on the day of the Symposium. Your presentation will need to be minimum of 12 minutes long with another 5 minutes for questions. There will be a very limited number of slots for oral presentation.
Presenting authors and co-authors are not required to register for the symposium until they are notified via email if their poster or oral abstract was accepted.

Criteria for Abstract Acceptance
The main factors considered to qualify abstracts for acceptance are as follows:
- Relevance to symposium objectives and goals
- Contribution/Significance – The work makes a contribution to disaster health education.
- Clarity – Abstract is clearly described.
Key Submission Elements
1. Title: The title should clearly and succinctly identify the contents of the abstract.
2. Authors and Affiliations: Enter each author separately and identify whether the individual is the primary author or a coauthor. Enter each name by providing the author’s name and organization.
3. Category: The following category selections will be available for selection:
- Disaster health learning research and promising practices
- Disaster health learning for teams or organizations
- Implementing and assessing disaster health competencies
- Improving Disaster Health Education

4. Abstract Text (300-word limit): Do not include your title and author information as part of the abstract body.
Poster and Oral Abstract Notification
Abstract results will be sent to the primary author via the email provided in the submission process by July 31, 2017.
