The National Foundation for Infectious Diseases (NFID) invites abstract submissions of original research in the topic areas listed below:

• Adjuvants and immunomodulators
• Antigen design and development
• Clinical studies and field trials for immunogenicity, reactogenicity, protection, and efficacy
• Epidemiology; burden of disease relevant to prevention by vaccine
• Immunization programs, financing/economics, policies, and regulatory issues
• Immunologic science; antigen presentation and processing; immune response, memory, recall, enhancement
• Preclinical studies including animal models
• Routes and methods of antigen administration
• Vaccine delivery systems
• Vaccine manufacturing, production, and scale-up
• Vaccine safety; patient and public acceptance and perceptions
• Vaccinology for veterinary and agricultural indications
• Vaccines for new and emerging pathogens
• Other topics related to vaccines and immunization (e.g., history, lessons learned, new strategies, initiatives)

Maurice R. Hilleman Early-Stage Career Investigator Award:
NFID is pleased to offer the Maurice R. Hilleman Early-Stage Career Investigator Award that recognizes individuals in the early stages of their careers in any field of vaccinology from basic research, through pre-clinical and clinical studies, manufacturing and production, to related research in public health, agriculture, health delivery, policy, and regulatory matters.

The awardee will receive $10,000 to support his or her research. In addition, a travel stipend and complimentary registration for the 20th Annual Conference on Vaccine Research in 2017 will be provided. The awardee will be recognized during the NFID luncheon at the 2016 conference and will be invited to present a 10 minute summary of their research.

To apply for Maurice R. Hilleman Early-Stage Career Investigator Award consideration:

• Applicants should be currently enrolled or recently completed training (e.g., internship, residency, fellowship, postdoctoral training, or similar educational programs), or be within four years of having earned their advanced degree (masters or doctoral) in any position at the time of submission
• Applicants must submit an abstract and select “Hilleman Award (Poster Only)” by no later than the abstract submission deadline
• Note that the award is funded in part by Merck & Co., Inc. and applicants must be in a position to accept funding. Furthermore, the Sunshine Act requires that Merck report any direct/indirect funding to US licensed physicians. Award winners of the Maurice R. Hilleman Early-Stage Career Investigator Award will be included in mandatory reporting. All publications under the award must explicitly state that the awardees’ work has been performed as a Maurice R. Hilleman Early-Stage Career Investigator Award recipient. Acknowledgement must also be given to NFID and Merck as the sponsors supporting the award.
