- The Section on International Child Health accepts abstracts related to any aspect of international/global child health. Abstracts in the categories of original research, program evaluation, educational or advocacy initiatives will be considered. The 2017 SOICH program is titled International Community Access to Child Health (ICATCH): Partnering to Transform Outcomes in Noncommunicable Diseases (NCD) and Child Injury in Low and Middle-Income Countries (LMICS), Sunday, September 17 from 8:00 am – 4:30 pm.
- Abstracts will be accepted for podium (oral) presentations as well as poster presentations. Abstracts submitted may be considered for either format at the discretion of the Abstract Review Committee. Special consideration will be given to abstracts that highlight ICATCH projects.
- Contestants must be AAP Section on International Child Health members or have a section sponsor (email soich@aap.org for more information on how to be sponsored).
- Abstract submissions are expected to have received Institutional Review Board approval when appropriate.
- Presenters of accepted abstracts should notify Stephen Warrick (stephen.warrick@cchmc.org) as soon as possible if they must cancel their presentation.
- The Section encourages submissions from international health professionals. Accepted presenters will be required to obtain travel letters or visas per U.S. immigration guidelines.
- New in 2017: Travel awards for two Low/Middle Income Country first authors (1 trainee and 1 non-trainee) will be awarded to a presenter of an accepted abstract. Each of the awards will be worth up to $3,000. Presenters who wish to apply for this award will submit with a 1-2 paragraph description of their need for travel support to attend the conference, planned use of the funds, and professional background.
- Abstracts may have been presented at a local, state, or regional meeting; however, the abstract may not have been previously published or cannot have been presented or submitted to other national meetings or journals at the time of their submission to the AAP National Conference & Exhibition. Papers presented at previous AAP meetings should not be re-submitted.
SOICH Photo Competition
A photo competition will be held at the AAP National Conference & Expedition at the Section on International Child Health Program.
- We will be accepting 1 photo for “Compelling Images of International Child Health” or “International Child Health (A Clinical Vignette)”.
- The submission must include a title, brief description of the subjects or setting.
- The clinical entry should include a brief description of the presentation and diagnosis, if known.
- A panel of judges will select and announce the winning photo during the SOICH Program, September 17, 2017, Chicago, IL.
- Open to all levels of fellows/faculty.
Requirements from contestants
Contestants must be AAP Section on International Child Health members or have a section sponsor.
Submission
- Photo: JPEG file 1024 x 784 pixels (larger but not smaller files will be considered).
- Signed AAP release form: Contestant agrees to release the photo to AAP SOICHpix for posting on the SOICH SOICHpix site.
Accepted submissions
- If your photograph is selected you (or a designee) will be required to bring an 18”-20” x 24”-30”copy of your photograph the day of the program.
- Only 1 photo per submission per author. If a presenter wishes to submit more than one photo this will require a separate submission for each photo.

Contributors are solely responsible. Contributors automatically assign copyright to the editors of SOICHpix for all images submitted and accepted for inclusion on the website. Their institutions are not responsible for the failure of a contributor to obtain consent. By submitting an image to this collection contributors agree that:
- Consent was obtained from the patient (if 18 years or older) or his/her legal guardian.
- She/he owns the copyright to the image (Images obtained as a work product by government employees is subject to government copyright rules).
- Permission for unrestricted use of these images is granted to the American Academy of Pediatrics and Section on International Child Health.
Awards
- A panel of judges will select and announce the winning photo during the program
- All photos may be published in the SOICHpix library
- Entries selected for presentation may be posted on the AAP SOICHpix website
