The American Academy of Nursing is now accepting abstracts for posters to be presented at the
2013 Annual Meeting & Conference: Transforming Health Care: Driving Policy Conference.
For the
Transforming Health Care: Driving Policy Conference, we invite submission of abstracts that reflect the conference objectives relative to advancing health policy. We also encourage abstracts that demonstrate nursing contributions to health policy through translational science that ranges from efficacy to effectiveness studies, implementation and dissemination studies, and comparative effectiveness research.
The Academy is dedicated to showcasing nurses as advocates, policy makers, change agents, strategists, and scientists, and as leaders and facilitators of initiatives that shape the advancement of health care and health policy.

- Generate strategies that significantly influence local, regional, and national health care policy agendas
- Forecast interdisciplinary research and innovation that transforms health care and drives policy

Submission Process
The cost for submitting abstracts for peer review is $30. If your abstract is accepted for presentation, there will be a second cost of $80 to submit your poster. Additionally, presenters will be expected to pay the conference registration fee before the start of the conference. Conference registration opens on May 1, 2013 at
bit.ly/AANRegistration2013.
Upon receipt of the poster submission fee and conference registration payment, your poster will be displayed electronically on monitors all day during the conference, and will be included in an online poster gallery following the conference that can be accessed by the public, with your permission. You will also have a 20-30 minute window at the conference to present and discuss your poster with interested attendees. The timing will be determined by the number of accepted abstracts and the final agenda.
Only abstracts derived from completed research will be accepted.
The abstract submission process is self-explanatory and user friendly. Please go to www.conferenceabstracts.com/aan2013 to submit (and/or edit) your abstract until 11:59pm (EDT),
Monday, June 3rd. After
June 3rd, your abstract is considered final and will be reviewed based on the content provided.
Review Process
The 2013 Abstract Review Committee will determine the final selection of abstracts based on scores and recommendations from peer reviewers.

Helpful Hints
- You DO NOT have to be a member of the Academy to submit an abstract
- Abstract submissions should be original work, and should NOT have been presented at or submitted to any other national or international conference, UNLESS specific permission has been granted by the Abstract Sub-Committee Chair.
- Your 250-word abstract should include:
Aims: The overall purpose, research question, or study hypothesis.
Methods: The study or project design and methods (sample, procedures, measures, and/or data analysis).
Results: The study or project findings or products.
Conclusions: The overall impact of findings and relevance to nursing or healthcare science.
- Each submission shall have one presenting author who must be present during the assigned poster sessions. This presentation will not interfere with conference attendance . Exact poster presentations times will be posted once the agenda is finalized.
- Accepted abstracts will remain on a secure website where Academy members and guests (with permission) can access them after the conference. Additionally, presenters will be provided with a link to upload their CV that will be directly linked to their poster.
- Review your abstract and check for typographical and spelling errors, clarity, and adherence to scientific style.
- Your name, address, email, telephone, and fax information are used for various communications throughout the conference planning process. Please check that the information entered is accurate, ensuring communication will reach you in a timely manner.
There is no need to duplicate the title or the authors’ names within the abstract.
