Thank you for submitting your work. Below you will find basic
submission instructions for both ARCHITECTURAL STUDENTS (new 2016 award category) and AIA HONOLULU MEMBERS. See below PDF links for more detailed information. When ready, start your submittal process by going to "New Users" below and click on "Join Now".
STUDENT DESIGN AWARDS (NEW for 2016): (Architectural Students Only)
The
AIA Honolulu Student Design Awards has been established to recognize student achievements in the design studio and provides a forum for student work to be celebrated beyond the academic setting.

Submission Fee
$25 / individual or group project AIAS member
$35 / individual or group project non-AIAS members
Entry fee includes free attendance for one student at the Design Awards Gala. Additional cost applies for groups to attend Design Awards Gala.
Deadlines
5/02 - Registration opens Monday, May 2
6/15 - Submissions must be fully completed/submitted/paid by Wed, June 15, Midnight (HST)
9/17 - Design Awards Gala, Saturday, September 17 at the NOAA Inouye Regional Center (security clearance required). Winners announced to the public
Eligibility
To be eligible for this award:
- You must be currently registered as a student(s) within an architectural program in Hawaii
- Work must be completed entirely and solely by the student(s)
- Group projects are acceptable, recognition must be given to each team member
- Projects submitted must be an assignment of an academic design studio
- Projects completed in a work or freelance setting are not permitted.
- Undergraduate category: Student(s) must have taken at least 2 years of design studio, or be enrolled in 3rd year or 4th year. Work must be from 3rd year design studio minimum.
- Graduate category: Student(s) must be in 5th or 6th year studio, or be submitting work from that that period
- Only one project allowed to be submitted per student
- Doctoral projects or doctoral research are not eligible for submission
- Project must have been completed within one calendar year of submission deadline

Submission Fee
$400 per entry (no refund requests after Monday, June 20).
Deadlines
5/09 – Online registration and submission opens Monday, May 9
6/20 – Deadline for refunds to be processed for withdrawals, Monday, June 20, 4 pm (HST)
7/08 – Extended! Submissions must be fully completed/submitted by Friday, July 8, Midnight (HST)
9/17 – Design Awards Gala, Saturday, September 17 at the NOAA Inouye Regional Center

Eligibility: (AIA & Assoc. AIA)
- Licensed Architect members of this Chapter may enter all project categories.
- Associate AIA members of AIA Honolulu may submit in the unbuilt project category only.
- There is no time limit from when project was completed to when it may be submitted for an award.
- There is no limit to the number of submissions by the same architect or firm.
- Firms whose employees are members of the jury are not eligible for submission in that year.
The following re-entry rules apply to previously submitted projects:
- Those projects that did not receive any award in a prior year may be resubmitted.
- Previously awarded projects which have undergone substantial renovation may be resubmitted.
- Previously awarded unbuilt projects are eligible for re-submittal upon completion.
- Projects which received past recognition in a non-juried category (such as past Members’ Choice or People’s Choice winner) may be submitted in subsequent years for consideration of a juried award.
- All other previously awarded juried projects are not eligible for resubmittal.
REGISTRATION PROCEDURES (for AIA Honolulu Members & Architectural Students)
Each project must be individually submitted online. Payment processing is done on a per entry basis. You will receive a unique login as a user and have the ability to enter multiple submissions within that account. You can go back and review and edit your submission(s) until the deadline.
Submission Deadlines:
- Wednesday, June 15, Midnight: Architectural Students
- Extended! Friday, July 8, Midnight: AIA and Assoc. AIA
(no changes can be made to any submissions after these dates)
For AIA & Assoc. AIA: A $100 administrative fee will be charged to all withdrawn projects, where AIA has been notified in advance of the request to withdraw. After Monday, June 20, 2016 no refund requests from entrants will be considered. There will be no refunds for submissions that are LATE, INCOMPLETE, or disqualified per the deadlines/guidelines of this awards program.
