Welcome to the 2020 AAMC GREAT Group and GWIMS Joint Professional Development Conference
Call for Posters and 5-Minute Talks

The AAMC Graduate Research, Education, and Training Group ( GREAT Group) and Group on Women in Medicine and Science ( GWIMS) invites the submission of abstracts for consideration for the popular 5-minute talks (previously called ‘rapid fire’ or podium presentations) and Poster Session and Reception and at the 2020 Joint Professional Development Conference. The meeting will take place September 10-12, 2020 in Chicago, Illinois.

Please join your colleagues and friends from across the country for this interactive session of sharing ideas and best practices.

This unique joint meeting among faculty and administrative leaders of biomedical PhD, MD-PhD, postdoctoral programs, and advocates for women’s advancement and leadership in science and medicine aims to explore new opportunities for synergy between these communities. Specifically, this meeting will focus on strategies and solutions to address issues at the intersection of gender equity, biomedical training, and the biomedical workforce at large.

Why Present at the 2020 GREAT Group and GWIMS Joint Professional Development Meeting? 

Presenting at the conference enables the sharing of knowledge, experiences, ideas, and information, and bolsters your professional scholarship portfolio. Submit a proposal to share your strategies and solutions.  The poster and 5-minute presentatiosn are opportunities to share your successes, failures and lessons learned, future directions, promising practices, collaborations, or solutions to community-wide issues.

What is a 5-minute talk?

This is session features a 5-minute oral presentation from each speaker and a Q&A session after each set of grouped presentations.

Topic Areas

Deadline
The deadline for submissions: March 3, 2020 at 11:59 pm PST.

Submission Process
Submissions will contain:

  • Author(s)/Presenter(s)
  • Poster/Presentation Title
  • Topic Area
  • Short Description (no more than 100 words)
  • Abstract (500 words or less):
    • Background, Aim/Hypothesis
    • Methods, Results and/or Outcomes
    • Conclusions/Implications
    • Areas for Follow-Up and/or Additional Study

Review and Selection Process
The Committee will review, evaluate and select abstracts using the following criteria:

  • Innovation
  • Creativity and originality
  • Transferability/Adaptability
  • Significance for advancing current models and/or practices at your institution
  • Data driven submissions and outcomes data
  • Relevance to categories chosen
  • Clarity of writing and organization of ideas

Notifications
Notification of acceptance will occur by early April 2020

Conference Fees, Travel, and Lodging
All presenters are responsible for registering in advance for the conference, paying the registration fee, and securing and paying for travel and lodging.
